Siemens SIMOVERT Masterdrives (6SE70 series) was the premium AC drive platform preceding SINAMICS, offering vector control, motion control, and AFE (Active Front End) capability for demanding industrial applications. SIMOVERT drives controlled machine tools, test stands, cranes, winders, and process lines requiring precise speed and torque regulation. Though discontinued for many years, thousands of SIMOVERT Masterdrives remain in critical service — and their repair is essential for continued operation.
Common SIMOVERT failures include IGBT power module degradation, DC link capacitor aging causing bus voltage instability, gate driver (CUR board) failures, CUVC/CUMC control board processor faults, communication board (CBP) PROFIBUS interface issues, input rectifier failures, and cooling system wear. The CUR (Current Regulator) board is a frequent failure point, as is the main IGBT module after extended service.
