Leroy-Somer (now part of Nidec) manufactures industrial motors, alternators, and variable speed drives used in process industries, HVAC, water treatment, and general industrial applications. Their drive products — including Powerdrive, Digidrive, Varmeca, and integrated Unidrive solutions — control pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, and other industrial loads. Leroy-Somer drives are particularly popular in French and Southern European industries, often paired with their own motor products for optimized drive-motor combinations.
Common Leroy-Somer drive failures include IGBT power stage degradation, DC bus capacitor aging, gate driver circuit failures, internal power supply faults, cooling fan bearing wear, and control board issues. Digidrive and Powerdrive units are susceptible to capacitor dry-out in warm environments, while older Varmeca integrated motor-drive units face additional challenges from motor heat affecting drive electronics.
