Control Techniques Drive Repair — Unidrive, Commander, Digitax

Control Techniques (now part of Nidec) manufactures variable frequency drives and servo drives used across a wide spectrum of industrial applications. Their product families — Unidrive, Commander, Digitax, Mentor, and Epsilon — cover everything from simple fan and pump control to high-performance multi-axis servo applications. With millions of drives installed globally, Control Techniques equipment is a staple of European industrial automation, particularly in material handling, HVAC, and machine tool applications.

Frequent Control Techniques drive failures include IGBT power module damage from overcurrent events or mains transients, DC bus capacitor degradation causing undervoltage trips, cooling fan failures leading to thermal shutdowns, control board faults including processor and memory failures, and encoder/resolver feedback interface problems. The Unidrive SP and M series frequently exhibit capacitor aging in the DC link, while Commander SK drives are susceptible to input stage failures from poor mains quality.

EFIXLAB provides professional repair for the full Control Techniques product range. Our repair process starts with comprehensive fault diagnosis — power stage testing under controlled conditions, control board functional verification, and communication interface testing (Ethernet, Profibus, DeviceNet, CANopen). We rebuild power stages with matched semiconductor modules, replace bulk DC link capacitors, repair or replace control PCBs, and restore drive parameters to factory or customer-specific settings.

Control Techniques drive repair delivers significant savings, particularly for higher-power Unidrive and Mentor models where replacement costs can be substantial. Typical savings range from 35–65% versus new drive purchase. For discontinued models like the older Unidrive Classic or Commander SE, repair is often the only practical option. All repaired drives are load-tested and carry our 12-month warranty.
