Motors & Encoders - Repair and Service

Motors and Encoders

Specialized Service for Drive Systems

Servomotors and encoders are precise electromechanical components essential for exact positioning and speed control. EFIXLAB offers professional diagnosis and repair of electronics in motors and position sensing systems.

Servomotors - Electronics Repair

Siemens Servomotors

  • 1FK7 Synchronous servomotors - encoder repair, thermistor replacement
  • 1FT6/1FT7 Asynchronous servomotors - resolver repair
  • Motor encoder systems: DRIVE-CLiQ encoder, SSI absolute, incremental encoder

Other Manufacturers

  • Lenze - MCS series synchronous servomotors
  • SEW-Eurodrive - CM series synchronous servomotors
  • Kollmorgen/Danaher - AKM series servomotors
  • Bosch Rexroth - IndraDyn S/H servomotors
  • Yaskawa - SGM series, Sigma-7 motors

Encoder Systems - Types and Repair

Incremental Encoders

  • Standard encoders with A/B tracks and zero pulse (ABZ)
  • Optical encoders: LED, photodetector, glass disc with line grid
  • Magnetic encoders: Hall sensors, magnetic poles
  • Repair: LED replacement, photodiode replacement, optical disc cleaning

Absolute Encoders

  • Singleturn: absolute position within one revolution (12-16 bit)
  • Multiturn: additional revolution counting (12-16 bit)
  • Protocols: SSI, EnDat, BiSS, Hiperface, CANopen
  • Repair: Battery replacement (Lithium 3.6V), electronics board, multiturn gearbox

Resolvers

  • Analog position sensors (inductive)
  • Very resistant to EMI, heat, vibrations
  • Common in harsh environments (military, servo drives, e-mobility)
  • Repair: Winding damage (rare), more often wiring and evaluation electronics

Linear Encoders

  • Heidenhain: LC/LIF/LIP series - optical scales with high accuracy (±1µm)
  • Renishaw: RESOLUTE/TONiC absolute scales
  • Repair: Reading head electronics, cables, optical cleaning

Common Defects

Encoder Defects

  • No signal: defective power supply, LED failed, photodiodes defective
  • Miscounting: contamination of optical discs, damaged line grid
  • Intermittent failure: loose contact in connectors, cable breaks
  • Battery failure: in multiturn encoders - position loss after power failure

Motor Winding Damage

  • Turn-to-turn short: short circuit between windings
  • Ground fault: winding to housing contact
  • Open winding: motor doesn't run or runs single-phase only

Repair Services

  • Replacement of LED light sources
  • Renewal of photodiodes and amplifier ICs
  • Cleaning and replacement of optical discs
  • Battery replacement in multiturn encoders
  • Repair/replacement of encoder board
  • Recalibration and adjustment
